WIND AND PLACE CARDS TO NOT MIX

If you’re having an outdoor reception and you plan to assign seating, avoid the simple tented placecard. Why? Just imagine a bunch of tiny pieces of paper with peoples names on them… flying around the yard.

Think: chalkboard, mirror, twine with tiny clothespins, wood blocks (such as Jenga pieces,)  pretty much anything but tiny cards for an outdoor space! In one of my early weddings, this exact thing happened with one gust of wind! We were frantically chasing tiny pieces of paper!!

Ideally a seating chart is the best option, but make sure it's heavy and anchored down tight on the easel. Avoid glass or mirrors - we've had gusts of wind topple the glass or mirror seating chart and shatter it into a million pieces. It too will blow.

And while we’re at it, if your wedding is indoors —alphabetize those place cards in advance. There is nothing worse than scrambling to put two hundred items in alphabetical order just thirty minutes before guests start arriving!
